Price to be provided upon request

Dates to be agreed with the customer

Instructor(-s): Pavel Bedrikovetsky

About the course
The course provides an overview of common issues in formation damage and well stimulation, with emphasis on waterflooding and offshore.

The course is designed for reservoir, drilling and production engineers; mathematical simulation and laboratory specialists involved in waterflooding, oilfield water management, drilling and well stimulation.

Course content
1. Introduction: General formation damage concepts
2. Formation damage in water injection and disposal wells. Modelling, Laboratory study. Injectivity test. Field cases from Brazilian deep waters. Exercises.
3. PWRI and RWI. Waterflood above fracture gradient. Exercises: depth of particle penetration; prediction of skin in fractured well.
4. Production formation damage in oil and gas fields (e.g. fines migration, sanding). Laboratory studies. Fines-migration test. Chemical compatibility test. Mathematical modelling. Exercises: calculate maximum retention function; predict productivity decline. Field cases from offshore Australia and Brazil.
5. Formation-damage-assisted technologies: low-salinity and smart waterflooding, water-production control, cost-effective EOR. Incremental recovery due to wettability alteration and additional sweep due to induced damage. Field cases.
6. Oilfield chemistry. Sulphate scaling. Exercises. Scale prevention and removal. Sea-water injection (North Sea cases).
7. Fines migration in high-rate gas reservoirs and productivity decline (North Sea and Campus basin - offshore). Drying the reservoir, fines lifting, rock disconsolidation.
8. Lessons learned (Russia, Brazil, Germany, UK, US, China).
